HOUSTON --- A patrol officer Tuesday uncovered a marijuana grow house inside a home in a prominent Pearland neighborhood, deputies said.
It happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of Hanover Circle.
The officer was patrolling the area of Northfork and Falcon Ridge where a suspicious person was reported near an elementary school. As he drove around he smelled smoke and thought a house was on fire so he called the Pearland Fire Department.
Firefighters forced their way inside and found what appeared to be a marijuana grow house. The people inside admitted that they were burning plastic sheeting in the fireplace and explained that they were burning it, instead of throwing it away, to conceal their operation, investigators said.
More than 200 plants were found inside the home and detectives took them out one by one.
“There were several pieces of duct work, air purifier, lights, brand new AC,” said Lt. Russ Baker, with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department.
The residence is actually located in the jurisdiction of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department and they assumed control of the scene.
