HOUSTON – Charges have been dropped against a Deer Park police officer accused of stealing food from the police department’s refrigerator.
Last Thursday an agreement was reached between the City of Deer Park and Officer Kevin Yang. Yang agreed to not sue the city in civil court and the city agreed to dismiss the Class C misdemeanor theft charge against the officer.
In a statement, the city suggested that the one month suspension without pay served by Yang cost him $4,500 -- many times more than the maximum fine of $500.
The case got attention all over the country and much of the reaction to both Yang and the city was negative.
Now Yang is back on the streets as an officer in full capacity.
