IRVING, Texas — Texas Stadium's final event is set for April 11.
The City of Irving announced Wednesday that the long-time home of the Dallas Cowboys will be imploded at daybreak that Sunday.
Texas Stadium opened in 1971, but the team now plays at its new state-of-the-art facility in Arlington and the decision was made to demolish the aging arena.
Kraft is sponsoring a contest targeting youngsters between the ages of 9 and 12; the winner will push the button to bring down Texas Stadium.
The city — which plans to redevelop the strategically-located property — has set up a Web site with live cameras that are already relaying images of the final days of the stadium.
