HOUSTON—Thieves hit two area Bike Barns and rode off with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, but the break-ins were captured on video and the owner hopes it helps solve the crime.
The Bike Barn in West University and Katy were both hit this week and an estimated $8,000 worth of bikes were stolen. This isn’t the first time the stores were targeted and the owners say they are sick of it.
Brandon Bedingfield, the West University manager, said despite locking up almost all of the merchandise, burglars managed to steal four hybrid bikes. Then on Monday, four road bikes from the store in Katy were taken.
Months ago, two men were arrested in connection with bike shop burglaries, in which upwards of $20,000 worth of merchandise was stolen.
Since then, Neil Bremner, the stores’ owner has stepped up security at his six stores and hopes the surveillance video of the crimes will help track down the criminals.
Remner also wants people in the market for bikes to beware of deals on websites like Craigslist.
“There are people out there getting unreasonably good deals … and there’s a deal that’s too good to be true, it’s probably too good to be true,” he said. “And buyer beware, because you are criminally responsible for buying stolen property.”
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
