LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – The mother of a baby found covered with roaches in a filthy Liberty County home has had five other children taken away, according to CPS.
The 1-year-old girl was found by deputies Tuesday in a room full of feces and trash.
"When I picked up the child, there were roaches that were on her legs and also a roach in her hair, so it was pretty tough," said Capt. Rex Evans with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
Neighbor Renee Davis called 911 because she spotted a dead horse in the yard of the home near the intersection of County Road 2800 and FM 2802, about 90 minutes northeast of Houston.
"I went and looked. I saw a mound that was covered up and noticed the two horses that were skin and bones," Davis said.
But she never imagined what deputies would find inside the home.
"It’s heart-wrenching, especially now that I found out there’s a baby involved," Davis said. "It just breaks my heart."
Investigators also found 20 cats, 15 dogs and the two horses that were so hungry they were eating plywood.
Mable Larson has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. More charges are possible.
Investigators are calling her husband, Aaron Parker, a person of interest and they want to talk with him.
The baby girl was taken to the hospital and released to the custody of CPS.
