SAN ANTONIO -- His name is Snoopy. He's a beagle who has had several owners. The smooth-coated hound with drooping ears has two microchips, but both failed to reconnect him with an owner.
It appears Snoopy was shot in the stomach. A second-year medical student found Snoopy on Monday at some apartments in the 8700 block of Cinnamon Creek.
That's the same complex where three kittens were found dead last week. Initial reports indicated the kittens were shot in the head with a pellet gun. Animal Care Services now says it's possible the kittens were mutilated by another animal.
Veterinarian Veronika Kiklevich at I-10 Pet Emergency said Snoopy should make a full recovery and the injury could have been much worse.
"The whole area is traumatized probably six inches in either direction. If that projectile had been a little off it would have shattered that back leg and we would have had to lose that," said Kiklevich.
Snoopy is a little overweight, and his size likely helped save his life.
"I think in this case it protected him it just bounced off his body wall and came back out again," Kiklevich said.
