HPD: Autistic boy, 12, trying to cross Katy Freeway dies after struck by SUV

HOUSTON—A 12-year-old autistic boy who wandered away from home Wednesday night, died after being struck by a vehicle in west Houston.

The child slipped away from his parents and was trying to cross the Katy Freeway near Wilcrest around 7:45 p.m. when he was hit by a Lincoln Navigator, police said.
His parents were out looking for him and found him after the accident.
The child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but could not be saved.
Police said the Lincoln driver was not at fault and will not be charged in the accident.
