SAN ANTONIO -- A 16-year-old girl has died from a gunshot wound she suffered during a drive-by shooting on the city's east side Friday night.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the teen as Kiana James.
Authorities said James was one of four people who were shot in the 600 block of Morningview Dr. around 9:15 p.m.
KENS 5 reporter Rogelio Mares caught up with James' mother, Roshaunda, who confirmed James was pregnant with her first child. Roshaunda said the fetus -- her first grandchild -- also passed away.
"The last thing I told her was to hold on, to keep hoping," the victim's mother said.
Roshaunda said Kiana was her oldest daughter and best friend.
"You shot somebody that wasn't involved in gangs, that had not done anything wrong to anybody," said Roshaunda, speaking directly to her daughter's unidentified killers. "She was there for us. We were family oriented. That bullet wasn't meant for her at all."
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, concerned by the shooting, is expected to talk Saturday about the department's plan to safeguard the area.
No immediate details were available about the other victims or a possible suspect.
