NEW YORK—Anthony Weiner got a supportive reception during his first appearance in his New York City mayoral campaign.
People shook his hand Thursday outside a Harlem subway station. They asked him about issues ranging from police tactics to education and services for the mentally ill.
The Democrat told reporters he’s encouraged that people are giving him a second chance and listening to his ideas.
Restaurant worker Joe Albaines says he considers Weiner to be a “family man” who cares about the middle class.
He says Weiner’s scandal is “between him and his wife.”
Weiner officially launched his comeback campaign with a video posted online late Tuesday.
His mayoral bid is happening two years after a series of tawdry tweets capsized his congressional career.
