BAYTOWN, Texas—A serial robbery suspect was detained by employees and customers during a hold-up at a Baytown taqueria Wednesday, police said.

Investigators said the armed suspect walked into the Taqueria Sahuayuo in the 2900 block of Market Street around 6:24 p.m.

He was wearing a black wrap over his face to conceal his identity, and he told the people inside the restaurant he would kill them if they didn’t give him money, police said.

But store employees were able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect, and police said the victims detained him after a struggle.

When officers arrived, they said the 16-year-old suspect confessed to three other area convenience-store robberies.

The suspect has since been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon – a first-degree felony.

Baytown police ask anyone who may have witnessed any of the robberies to call investigators at 281-422-8371. Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at 281-427-TIPS or submitted online at Baytown.org.

Information leading to an arrest could earn a cash reward from Crime Stoppers.
