WILMINGTON, Del. -- Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill say their son Beau is "in great shape" and will be discharged from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Thursday.

In a written statement, the Bidens said their son underwent a "successful procedure" Tuesday, but didn't elaborate.

They said Beau Biden will be allowed to return home to Delaware tomorrow.

Biden, the Delaware attorney general and Vice President Joe Biden's oldest son, flew to Houston Monday to undergo medical tests after becoming weak and disoriented during a family vacation last week.

Biden was initially admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago last week and traveled the next day to the Philadelphia hospital where he had been treated for his 2010 stroke to consult with his doctor. He spent last weekend at home in Wilmington before going to Texas.

Also Thursday, authorities said emergency responders were called earlier this month to the home where Beau Biden has been living.

A county dispatch center log indicates that someone at the vice president’s home was reported to be possibly having a stroke and apparently not alert.

Beau Biden, 44, has been staying at his father’s Greenville home while his own house is renovated.

Rickie Clark, a staff supervisor with the Cranston Heights Fire Co., confirmed Wednesday that county dispatchers received a call for help from Joe Biden’s home. However, he refused to provide further details.

The dispatch log on the fire department’s website shows two references to the vice president’s home on Aug. 1, one at 9:25 p.m. and another about a minute and a half later. Both cite "Cva-Not Alert," indicating that a person was in distress and apparently not alert or responsive to his or her surroundings. Clark said "Cva" is shorthand for cerebrovascular accident, or stroke.

The younger Biden has posted two photos of himself in recent days—one of him smiling with his father on Sunday, the other of him smiling with his wife, Hallie, on Tuesday.

"Touched by all your well wishes—thank you. Nice evening in Houston w/ Hallie; will share update when we have it," said the tweet accompanying the photo with his wife.

After suffering the mild stroke in May 2010, Biden spent a week in the Jefferson University hospital and more than a month recuperating at home.

“I was just a little off,” Biden later explained to The Associated Press when asked about his stroke. “My arm didn’t feel right. I was able to move it, but I just wasn’t myself.”

“Stroke was the farthest thing from my mind when I went in,” Biden added then, saying he didn’t know enough to be scared, or to reflect on the brain aneurysm that nearly killed his father in 1987 at age 45.

Beau Biden is the eldest son of Vice President Biden. After the 1972 accident that killed his wife and daughter and critically injured brothers Beau and Hunter Biden, the vice president devoted himself to caring for his two sons as a single father.

Joe Biden has been by his son's side in Houston. He has canceled schedule appearances in Maine and Rhode Island Thursday.

Biden's wife, Jill, is also reportedly in Houston, along with Beau Biden's wife, Hallie.
