NEW ORLEANS, La. – City Park officials are looking for vandals who broke into the park’s maintenance yard, stole five utility vehicles, and then caused $5,000 worth of damage to the park.
It happened sometime between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
According to officials, vandals broke into the maintenance yard off of Diagonal Avenue, between Zachary Taylor and Harrison Avenue, stole five utility vehicles, and then engaged in an apparent “demolition derby” by driving the vehicles into adjacent lagoons.
The five totaled vehicles include three John Deere Gators and teo brand-new Kubotas.
“Each day the staff and board of City Park work to deliver a better and quality park to the citizens of Greater New Orleans. No one at City Park dons rose colored glasses, but the senseless criminal act has left us deeply frustrated. The best resolution to this situation will be the arrest and conviction of those responsible,” said City Park Chief Operating Officer Rob DeViney.
City Park is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.
If you have any information, you are asked to call City Park Police Chief Billy Bayle at (504) 421-9307.
