HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Three people were in the hospital after an 18-wheeler smashed into a wrecker in east Harris County on Saturday.

Deputies said two wreckers were stopped behind a Chevy that had a flat tire on Highway 90 near Miller Road around 2:30 a.m.

Authorities said one tow truck driver was out helping two women in the car change the tire when an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound veered right and crashed into the back of one of the wreckers.

Deputies said the wrecker then smashed into the back of the other tow truck, striking the wrecker driver who was on the freeway. The car with the flat tire was sent down a grassy hill and across the nearby feeder road. A female passenger was still in the car when it was struck, authorities said. She and the first wrecker driver were airlifted to the hospital in serious condition.

Authorities said the other wrecker driver was in the vehicle when it was hit. She sustained minor injuries and was taken by ground to the hospital to be checked out.
