AUSTIN -- There is a little break in the wet weather Monday morning, but the City of Austin is not taking any chances on residents' safety.

While some areas have reopened after this weekend's storms, some remain closed. The City has decided to shut down area trails and golf courses.

All low water crossings are open in Austin. So if you have to go to work or school, there should be no problems with your morning commute.

It was a very different situation on Sunday, though.

The Sunset Valley area was perhaps the hardest hit. Officers evacuated about 25 families from their homes when Williamson Creek overflowed its banks.

Some drivers ignored the old adage, "Turn around don't drown." Officers had to rescue several drivers from their vehicles. One man was rescued from a kayak in Barton Creek.

Since then the Austin Fire Department banned boat traffic and recreational use of Barton Creek until noon Monday.
