AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating a fatal hit-and-run on U.S. 183 at Burleson Road in Southeast Austin that left a 10-year-old boy dead.

KVUE's exclusive content partner the Austin American-Statesman reports that around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, 10-year-old Yahir Vidal and his family lost control of their Ford Mustang due to icy road conditions.

They stopped in the outside lane, and everyone exited the car. DPS said that's when a white, Chevy pickup truck hit the boy and his grandfather.

The Chevy then hit another truck driving in the opposite lane and did not stop.

First responders took the grandfather to the hospital with injuries, and the boy was pronounced dead. The child's uncle was also injured, but DPS has not yet released a full list of injuries.
