HOUSTON—If you haven’t heard of Sysco, there’s a good chance you’ve tasted their burgers.
The Houston-based company is North America’s largest food service supplier, for everything from national fast-food chains to local landmarks.
What’s more, Sysco is growing – and that’s good news for Houston.
The company is consolidating administrative operations from across North America to the former Compaq/HP call center in northwest Harris County.
"If you own a restaurant around here or a business around here, it’s always good to see new jobs coming into town," Mark Palmer of Sysco said.
The move is expected to create as many as 2,000 new jobs in Houston.
Economists say that kind of growth could easily created 2,400 indirect jobs, too.
Sysco searched the nation for the best location and chose Houston over cities in 13 other states.
The company said the jobs will be phased in over the next two years, pumping a half-billion dollars into the Houston economy.
