The Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the World Series after a 29-year drought, while the Houston Astros only had to wait 12 years since their last appearance.

Since 2000, 19 franchises have reached the Fall Classic, with 11 winning the championship. Here's a look at the teams during that span that have not reached the World Series.

AL East

  • Baltimore Orioles: Their best chance was in 2014 when they won the division, but were swept by the Royals in the ALCS.
  • Toronto Blue Jays: Ended a two-decade playoff drought with a pair of ALCS appearances (2015-16), but no pennant.

AL Central

  • Minnesota Twins: 1-6 series record and one wild card loss in eight postseason appearances.

AL West

  • Oakland Athletics: Moneyball earned them eight postseason appearances and only one ALCS.
  • Seattle Mariners: Now own longest playoff drought - they haven't been back since 116-win season in 2001.

NL East

  • Atlanta Braves: Swept by Yankees in '99 Series, but no pennant in the final six years of 14-season NL East reign.
  • Washington Nationals: Franchise has never won a postseason series.

NL Central

  • Cincinnati Reds: Reached the postseason three times under Dusty Baker, but he was fired.
  • Milwaukee Brewers: Dream season in 2011, but lost in the NLCS to Cardinals.
  • Pittsburgh Pirates: 1-2 in wild-card games after ending two-decade run of losing seasons.

NL West

  • San Diego Padres: Two-year playoff run under Bruce Bochy in 2005-06 never lasted beyond the NLDS.
