"In the spirit of providing good customer service," Texas Department of Transportation has announced the agency is waiving late fees for unpaid toll transactions that happened before March 1 of this year.
TxDOT confirmed to KHOU 11's partners at KVUE that all unpaid late fees that were incurred prior to March 1 will be waived.

“So March 1 is a new day," James Bass, TXDOT Executive Director said Wednesday before the House Committee on Transportation. "It’s being considered to be a new day in the system, so rather than trying to carry forward two different violation policies within the system, the decision has been made we’re only moving forward with the current one, in compliance with Senate Bill 312. So all of the earlier late fees are no longer being pursued.”
The agency said that in the coming weeks, customers will only see the new late fee of $4 per statement on their accounts after 30 days of nonpayment.
Customers are still required to pay the toll charges remaining on their accounts, TxDOT said.
TxDOT announced several weeks ago that the cost of late fees is getting capped at $4 per month, or $48 per year. That does not apply, however, to tollways operated by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority which are: Highway 183-A, Highway 290 East, North Mopac Boulevard, and Texas 71.
