A Metro employee was honored Thursday for pulling two people from a burning car last month.

Leang “Terry” Ear, a Metro technician, was working the overnight shift when a man flagged him down near the intersection of Harrisburg and 66th Street.

Smoke was pouring out of a car that had crashed near the Metro Rail line.

Ear helped pull out the driver and his female passenger just before the car burst into flames.

As he was honored Thursday, Ear insisted his actions weren’t heroic.

“I’m a husband. I’m a father. I think anyone would have done that,” said the 44-year-old.

Relatives of the driver he saved disagree.

“I would definitely like to thank him on behalf of my brother and my family for being courageous enough to save another human life,” said Ruby Ortiz, the driver’s sister. “If it wasn’t for him doing that, my brother probably wouldn’t be here today.”

Both victims survived and have been released from the hospital.
