It's Spring Break: Sunscreen, Coats or Umbrellas?

It's that time of year again when the kids are out of school and debauchery runs wild. While most of us think of Spring Break as the dawn of beach days and outdoor pool parties, it can still get cold enough that perhaps only the toes will be taking a dip.

So what's this year shaping up like? Well, depends on where you're going.

Galveston:

The upper Texas coast will be dealing with clouds and spotty showers this weekend before a cold front ushers in winter's last gasp of cold mornings and cool afternoons. After highs in the 80s on Saturday (today), temperatures will drop into the mid 70s Sunday followed by low 60s for highs on Monday and staying in the 60s through Wednesday. Skies will remain sunny most of the coming week before rain chances move back in next weekend.

South Padre Island:

The quintessential Spring Break hot spot will be anything but hot. A late season cold front will swing through the area on Monday bringing with it the best chance of rain all week and much cooler temperatures -- rather unbecoming of the reputation that precedes it of toasty warm temperatuers and sunny skies. Nonetheless, once the front pushes into Mexico on Monday evening, the rain chances should end and the skies should remain partly cloudy the rest of the week. Look for highs in the 70s Saturday and Sunday followed by highs in the mid to upper 60s Monday and Tuesday and low 70s the rest of the week.

Florida:

The Sunshine State will be living up to its name next week. However, with the good comes the bad. On Monday, the same cold front that will move through Texas on Sunday will move through Florida on Monday. Rain looks to be an issue most of Monday for the entire peninsula regardless of where you are. However, high pressure will quickly build in behind the front clearing out the skies state wide. So whether you're in the piney woods of north Florida, Disney's Magic Kingdom, Tampa's Busch Gardens or Miami's famed beaches, you'll be basking in sunshine most of next week!

Normally the words "Florida" and "Cold" don't go in the same sentence but next week is going to be a chilly one state wide. For example, highs most of next week in Jacksonville in the northeast part of the state will be in the low 60s for daytime highs and overnight lows in the 30s!

For Tampa/Orlando, look for highs in the upper 60s most of next week with lows in the upper 40s and Miami will only manage highs around 70 degrees with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

It's going to be chilly all over the southeast thanks to that front. Be prepared, you've been warned!

Have a great trip! We'll see you when you get back!
