Dad, two children rescued; Mom, third child killed in Spring house fire

Officials say the mother and one of her kids died in the fire. They also confirm her husband and two other children were transported to the hospital with burn injuries.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas- Officials say a mother and her young child were killed in a house fire early Saturday morning in Spring.

According to the Harris County Fire Marshall's Office, they were notified around 12:50 a.m. by the Spring Volunteer Fire Department about a fire at the home located in the 2300 block of Pebworth.

Neighbors told KHOU 11 News, the fire was absolutely heartbreaking to watch, and even more tragic to hear the woman inside the home.

“I heard the mom screaming” said Jose Ramirez, “I got desperate. I was trying to go in the back. I was trying to go and help but the fire was so much.”

The flames went through the roof of the home when firefighters got to the scene.

Ramirez said the inferno grew quickly. He noticed the fire from his home and grabbed the only fire extinguisher he could find to try and help.

Neighbor say the woman’s husband suffered severe burns. He and two of his young children were taken to a local hospital for burn injuries.

Two deputy constables from Harris County Precinct Four were among the first responders to arrive at the scene. Witnesses say the two constables rescued one of the two children, carrying the young boy to safety.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire. A spokesperson for the fire marshal’s office says part of that investigation will be determining if the home had working smoke detectors.
