HOUSTON - A teenager won the Grand Champion prize in the Junior Market Steer competition at RodeoHouston Friday evening.
The 15-year-old named Jagger Horn from Anson, Texas and his steer were awarded the prize at NRG Stadium.
The steer, a Charolais, was chosen out of 1,800 steer brought to the show.
The steer was sold at an auction on Saturday for $345,000.
"It was an amazing feeling. It's a life-changing experience. It's a dream come true for me. Ever since he was young, we knew this was going to be a good calf so we decided we were going to keep him and show him and it's very great that we could raise a homegrown calf and win the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with him." Horn said on Saturday.
He said he plans to spend the money on his college education. He said he plans to go to Texas A&M.
