DALLAS -- Tourists are already heading to Dallas to gather for the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

In Dealey Plaza Wednesday night in front of the Texas Book Depository and the infamous 6th floor window, preparations were underway to commemorate the darkest day in Dallas history.

The center of the plaza will host an estimated 5,000 invitees and dignitaries on Friday.

Midday, a simple but reverent ceremony is planned to mark the anniversary.

Devotees honoring Kennedy's memory have already placed flowers at the site.

"It's just so sad to me still even 50 years later because even in West Texas we were big Kennedy fans," said Sydney Odom, who is from Baird, Texas
