Lee McGuire

Lee McGuire has reported for 11 News since August 2006. Before moving to Houston, he spent four years covering the Texas Legislature at KVUE-TV in Austin.

It just so happened that McGuire came to Austin just as one of the most engaging legislative sessions in recent memory kicked off. He followed the redistricting battle from start to finish, and spent several months in a row covering repeat special sessions on school finance reform. In 2006, he was the only reporter to fly with Gov. Rick Perry on a trip to the Texas/Mexico border, as the state began a crackdown on illegal immigration and border crime.

McGuire was honored with the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and the Headliners Foundation's "Best Reporter in Texas" award in 2006. He has previously won awards for his political coverage in Texas and in Idaho, where he spent two years as an investigative reporter at KTVB-TV in Boise.

After growing up in Newton, Massachusetts, McGuire went to college at Princeton University, and graduated in 1998 with a degree in politics. He earned a graduate degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2000.
