Chau Nguyen
Chau Nguyen is KHOU-TV's general assignments reporter and Saturday morning anchor.
Her career began early in college when she was asked to take a full-time desk editor position at KRIV-TV. It was a job that launched a television news career and took her halfway around the world and back.
After working at KRIV, then KTRK as a writer, Chau transitioned to on-air responsibilities in 1996 as an anchor and reporter on the islands of Guam and Saipan. She returned to Houston in 1998 to report for KRIV-TV, then spent three years reporting for WGCL-TV in Atlanta before joining KHOU.
In 2000, Chau travelled to Vietnam to cover a medical mission. Her series reporting earned her a regional Emmy award.
Chau's family fled Saigon, Vietnam when she was just 2 years old. Her family settled in Houston, Texas, among the first wave of Vietnamese immigrants who settled here. She is fluent is Vietnamese and very proud of her heritage.
She is a cum laude graduate of the University of St. Thomas and a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
Chau also regularly volunteers for the Food for Seniors program and Bonita House, a women's shelter for victims of drug abuse and domestic violence.
Curious in nature and a passion for anything outdoors and adventurous, Chau is an avid traveller and scuba diver. She has also completed six marathons and three half Ironman distance triathlon race. In September 2007, she completed her first Ironman Distance race in Madison, Wis. She is hooked, and she has her sights on Ironman Austria in July 2008.
She is the proud parent of a GURU bicycle and an English bulldog affectionately named Ally.
