HOUSTON - The Houston International Festival is planning its' opening ceremony to mark the official on-site launch for this year's 42nd annual event celebrating the country of Argentina.

The opening ceremony will be held on the festival’s center stage on the steps of downtown City Hall and welcomes business and community leaders, festival sponsors, and all those wishing to celebrate the launch of the 2012 festival.

The program is hosted by representatives from many of the festival’s major media partners and includes a children’s parade provided by the Sister Cities of Houston, remarks from the Mayor of Houston, and a performance celebrating the culture of the 2012 honored country, Argentina.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a free lunch concert featuring Argentinean and South American music by the band Latin Carnaval and a dance performance by the gaucho folk troupe Luna Argentina.

The festival food court surrounding the Reflection Pool will be officially open for business during the ceremony and concert.
