LA MARQUE — A 45-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was traveling in rolled over Saturday on southbound Interstate 45, department of public safety officials said.
A 2000 Ford Explorer swerved and struck a highway divider in the 4700 block of Interstate 45 about noon, state trooper Brent Roper said. After striking the median, the SUV rolled over three or four times, he said.
The woman, who was sitting in the back seat, was ejected from the SUV, Roper said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
Officials do not know if she was wearing her seat belt, Roper said. Her name was withheld pending identification of relatives, he said.
Officials have not determined why the driver swerved. The SUV was the only vehicle involved in the accident, Roper said.
The male driver, of Houston, was taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, and an ambulance took a woman and two children to the University of Texas Medical Branch, Roper said. All four are in stable condition, he said.
Police shut down the highway’s southbound lanes for about two and a half hours, Roper said.
No criminal charges have been filed, Roper said.
