HOUSTON—Precinct 4 constables have arrested a man accused of stealing more than two dozen pickup truck tailgates in northeast Harris County.
The arrest came after Noelle Cabello sold a tailgate back to an alleged victim, Constable Precinct 4 Captain Wally Wieghat said
Investigators said Cabello was advertising on Craigslist under the name Mr. Tailgate. One of the alleged victims noticed the ad on Craigslist and met up with Cabello. The woman and her husband then bought back their own tailgate for $350, Wieghat said. So did one of their friends.
That’s when they called authorities.
Wieghat said, not only did the VIN on the tailgate match the one on the trucks, but the owner’s key fit in flawlessly.
Precinct 4 deputy constables said they found more than two dozen stolen tailgates at Cabello’s home. He was taken into custody and charged with grand larceny felony theft.
Authorities said Cabello told them that he had bought the tailgates for $60 apiece and was selling them to try and make some money to buy Christmas presents.
It’s believed that the tailgates were stolen from the Spring and east Harris County areas.
