TEXAS CITY, Texas — A Texas City police officer charged with felony injury to a child is on leave with pay pending the outcome of the sheriff’s office investigation.
Still, the sheriff’s office is under fire for allowing officer John Thorn to remain free during the weekend even though he was a wanted man.
Last Thursday, a felony injury to a child charge was filed against Thorn, who is a K-9 officer and member of the Field Investigation Team for the Texas City Police Department.
A warrant was issued by Pct. 1 Justice of The Peace Jim Schweitzer on Friday, but sheriff’s office spokesman Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo said Thorn made arrangements to turn himself in Monday morning.
About 8:30 a.m. Monday, Thorn showed up at the Galveston County Jail and was booked and released on a $5,000 bail.
