HOUSTON -- A Langham Creek High School freshman who said he's the victim of a hate crime is speaking out.

Jayron Martin said he begged two principals at his school and his bus driver for help before he was hit repeatedly with a metal pipe.

Martin said the help never came. He said it took a neighbor with a shotgun to stop the beating.

“They didn’t do anything,” said Martin. “They never called me down or nothing.”

The attack happened after school November 12, near the 6100 block of Langham Mist Lane.

According to the 16-year-old, the attack took place off campus. He said a fellow student beat him after school while eight others stood around and watched. Martin believes he was beaten because he’s gay.

“All they kept saying was, ‘We going to get you. We going to fight you,’ and all that and so when they started coming after me they were like, ‘You’re not going to be gay anymore.’ They just kept hitting me,” he said.

Hours before the incident, Martin said a friend told him a group was planning to attack him. The teen said he talked with two administrators about his concerns. The administrators took a written statement from him, said Martin.

“I sat down in the cafeteria and I started writing the letter and so then I handed it to them and they said, ‘We are going to call y’all down and stuff like that,’” he said.

Martin said he was never called to the office, and the administrator didn’t call his mother.

At the end of the school day, Martin said he rode the bus home. The group threatening Martin was riding the same bus. Martin said he told his bus driver, but nothing happened. The teen said the group ran after him as he got off the bus.

“You don’t understand, I was just running for my life and nobody was like there at all. Nobody was doing anything for me,” said Martin.

Martin said the group chased him, and he ran into one of his neighbors' home. While there, Martin said, one of the teens beat him for seven minutes with a pipe. He said the attack didn’t stop until the man who lives in that home came downstairs.

“Then the man came down with his shotgun and he was like, ‘Y’all need to stop. Y’all need to stop,’ And the boy wouldn’t stop and he just kept hitting me and hitting me and so he cocked his gun and that’s when he ran out,” Martin said.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested the 16-year-old who beat Martin. The accused teen is facing aggravated assault charges. His case is in the juvenile court system, and those records are sealed.

No other arrests have been made at this time.

On Wednesday, Cy-Fair School District officials said they have launched an investigation. They said they have placed Martin’s bus driver on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The district is also reviewing the actions of an assistant principal.

“I’m disgusted,” said the teen's mother Lakenya Martin. “I’m sorry, after the fact doesn’t do it. The school district let us down. I mean, let all of us down because it could have been anyone’s kid.”

The Cy-Fair mother said she wants to move away from the neighborhood and out of the school district.

“When the child does what they’re supposed to do and the adult doesn’t, what are you supposed to say then?  How do you make him feel comfortable? How do you give him back that sense of security,” she said.

Martin suffered a concussion. He also has cuts and bruises on his arms and hands, and said he does not want to return to school.

Meanwhile, the Martin family has retained an attorney and is considering a civil lawsuit.

Metal pipe? More like the aluminum poles that ADT uses for those signs they post in customer's front yards.

Jayron Martin rode my bus. Now we have assigned seating like five year olds. What Jayron failed to mention to our friends at KHOU-11 was that he had been harrassing the alleged attacker through text, trying to get him to send nude photos. Jayron then texted him on a girl's cell phone and finally got a nude picture. Then he started showing the picture around campus, claiming that the attacker had sent it to him. Assault was definitely too far, but Jayron Martin lied to the press and claimed this was a hate crime. What are the administrators to do? They really can't do much if there hasn't been any signs of bullying happening at school. The most that they can do is call the accused to the office and ask for their side of the story. What does this accomplish? Not much. If it happens off-campus it is no longer their responsibility. And then the protestors. Oh for the love of Pete, these guys were just idiots reacting to a news piece that involved a hate crime against a homosexual student.

Forum, dont make accusations if u dont even know what really happend.

It is unfortunate for the school administrators that they are not allowed (by a law called FERPA) to discuss the case and give what is most likely the true story. School administrators hear of potential conflicts and, as best they can, get to the bottom of the story and ward off the violence between the kids. What people don't seem to understand is that teachers and administrators do not go home with the kids. To say that the administrator "did nothing" is a moot point. Nothing had been done to the kid at the school. There was no pattern of bullying nor abuse, and there was no action that the school (or the Precinct 4 Constables) could have taken. The kid decided to get on the bus with a bunch of kids he felt threatened by. I wonder why the kid didn't stay at the school and call Mom or another relative for a ride home? Unfortunately, so many decide to place the blame on a scapegoat, rather than on those responsible.

Gun Control: If law-abiding citizens were not allowed to own guns, this kid could be dead or severely crippled. Thank God that man had the gun.

Why is it ALWAYS the school district employees fault with things like this happen? The kid was NOT attacked on school property, so what makes the school responsible? This kids has a parent who is "disgusted" over the incident that took place IN HER NEIGHBORHOOD and not at the school, so why didn't SHE do anything to help her child? Did her son tell HER he was afraid something was going to happen to him? When are we as a society going to start taking responsibility for ourselves and not fight so hard to put blame on others?

I wonder if the administrators are the same ones that were there when I was there. If so, this does NOT suprise me. They have all of these procedures they want you to follow, but they don't take anything seriously. What is the point of the reporting procedures if the leaders of the school do nothing to follow up on them? Especially when it comes to reporting potential violence?? Thank God for that neighbor, or this would have been way worse. Shame on you Langham Creek. Seems nothing has changed.

I think the principles should be put on leave without pay. Maybe then they will think more seriously about their job description. I feel sorry for the victim in this case who is a minor and having his name publicsized while the attacker name is protected because he only 16 yrs old and his record wil be wripped clean when he turns 18. treat him like an adult.

Makes me mad that the kid did what he was supposed to, he reported the issue and they did NOTHING! Thank God for the neighbor or we'd be reading a story about a boy beaten to death by another.

"Ok there is no Surprise here. School Administrators not doing anything about Crimes like these happeninng in our Schools. The Campus Police are nothing more than rent a cops that are controled by the school politics. The schools will not report these incidents in fear of panic and a negative image. I am sorry this young person got hurt, but to claim that he got beat with a metal pipe for 10 minutes. I think he wouldn't be alive to talk about what happen that day. Now the bus driver was suspended but the Administrator wasn't "Classic" school Politics at it's best. "

There are some principals out there that don't do squat. One of my fellow teachers, when I was still in the profession, was once threatened by a student. He told him, "I'm going to make you a f***ing cripple. I'm going to f*** you up." Teacher wrote him up, sent him to the principal, and he did nothing. Didn't punish the student, didn't call his home, didn't even assign him to in-school suspension, nothing. My colleague had to go to go over his head before the assistant principal in question even bothered to talk to him about it.

These kids who are doing this kind of thing are going to be the people running our country one day. I don't care what kind of hate crime it is, children deserve to be protected. Thank god for the guy with the shotgun! I would have been tempted to let one fly if it had been me. These school disticts involved in these things are NOT doing their jobs.
