HOUSTON—Harris County Sheriff's Deputies said speed and alcohol may have caused a crash that claimed one man’s life early Saturday.

It happened in the 2700 block of  W. Bay Area Blvd. at Friendswood in southeast Harris County.
Deputies said around 2:30 a.m., they responded to a car crash and found a white Mustang crashed into a tree. Deputies said the driver, Joshua Howard, may have been speeding when he failed to make a curve in the road, lost control of the car and crashed into the tree.
Howard was taken to Clear Lake Regional hospital in extremely critical condition, where he later died. The passenger refused treatment at the scene.  He sustained only minor bumps and bruises.
