FRIENDSWOOD, Texas—A Pasadena man is facing felony stalking charges following an 18-month investigation by the Friendswood Police Department. Gobin Ramroop, 57, was indicted by a Galveston County grand jury last week. Ramroop, who also uses the alias Govinda Vishnu, was brought to the attention of Friendswood police in March 2008 when the victim complained that he’d been harassing her. She told police Ramroop continued to call and write to her, professing his love, and that his actions were becoming disturbing. She said she’d met Ramroop through work. Police said even after Ramroop became aware of their investigation, the harassment continued to the point of stalking. The victim, 39, had also filed a report with the Pearland Police Department, due to Ramroop’s actions in that jurisdiction. He was convicted of harassment by a Brazoria County jury in March 2009 and sent to the Brazoria County Jail for three months. Upon his release, police said Ramroop continued harassing the victim, who subsequently notified Friendswood police. Police said Ramroop has a criminal history in Florida that includes aggravated battery, domestic assault, stalking and attempted murder. Records show he previously served 10 years in prison on a 13-year sentence for the attempted murder of a male acquaintance of a former girlfriend. Ramroop is being held on $50,000 bond at the Friendswood Municipal Jail, pending a transfer to the Galveston County Jail.
