BAYOU VISTA — Mix several dozen TV commercial production folks hanging out at Louie’s Bait Camp with the rebuilding spirit after Hurricane Ike and you have the makings of a new ad for Chevy trucks.

Galveston County locations will serve as the backdrop for a new ad campaign for the truck maker.

Production officials were mum on the commercial shoot that started Friday at Louie’s on state Highway 6. Basically, the image campaign is supposed to show how Chevy trucks are being used to help the area recover from Hurricane Ike.

The backdrop near Bayou Vista was an Ike-damaged house on the end of Delesandri.

“They wanted to show all the work we got going on out here rebuilding after Hurricane Ike and how Chevy helps rebuild America,” Kurt Dohman, the owner of Louie’s, said.

Part of the commercial involved dumping sand from dump trucks from Mabes Hauling in Santa Fe.

Dohman’s wife, Judy, negotiated with the production company to use the property as a staging area. The crew also was shooting portions of the commercial in Houston, Galveston and Bolivar Peninsula.

Weather, though, held up much of the shoot Friday. As crew members sat inside Louie’s to dry off, others ran to Walmart in La Marque to buy clean and dry jeans for staff members who got mired in the muck when they tried to shoot the commercial at daybreak.
