HOUSTON—A young mother fired a gun at robbers in her home in Huffman Wednesday morning.

“I felt like I was losing my mind,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified.

Investigators said two men broke in through the garage door of the home located on Yonder Way Street in the Commons subdivision.

The woman hid her 10-year-old son in a closet and told him to call 911.

She grabbed a 22-caliber rifle and was able to fire a shot before it jammed.

She missed and hit a candle.

“I was scared and trembling,” said her son, who heard the shot.

The two men took off with a computer, Xbox games and other items.

The pair somehow managed to lock a 200-pound mastiff dog in a restroom.

They also stuffed a small Maltese dog in a washer.

The family said someone attempted to break into their home last week.

Investigators with the constable’s office said they are working on some leads, but have not made any arrests.
