KATY, Texas – A Katy man is in custody after he allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Matthew Kinsel, 29, has been charged with sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony.
According to deputies, the victim’s parents called authorities on February 2 after they learned their daughter was having sex with Kinsel.
Deputies said they were told Kinsel would pick up the girl at her home late at night when the rest of the family was asleep. He would then take her back to his apartment in Katy, where the assaults occurred.
On February 6, investigators went to Kinsel’s apartment and discovered he had fled to Colorado, where his parents live.
An arrest warrant was issued for Kinsel two days later and forwarded to a sheriff’s office in Colorado. The next day, Fort Bend County detectives were told that Kinsel was taken into custody without incident.
If convicted, Kinsel faces anywhere from two to 20 years in prison and could be fined up to $10,000.
