HOUSTON -- No matter what city, or what country he is in, Osteen draws a crowd. People love his folksy manner, southern charm, and relentless message of hope.
The message of his latest book is similar to his other releases.
“Our message is about hope and joy and God's goodness," Osteen said.
You could say Osteen knows all about God's goodness. Since taking over his father's church 12 years ago, he has become famous and wealthy. In his book he encourages everyone to embrace an abundant life mentality.
But he said it’s not a “prosperity” message.
“I never liked that title because I don't preach about money, I don't ask for money, I talk about life and hope and happiness," Osteen said.
"I think you have to get to the point where you say, ‘God, I know you have abundance for my life, not just material things, abundance of joy, abundance of peace, abundance in all different areas," he said.
Nicknamed the “smiling preacher,” Osteen even has a section in the book that talks about the importance of smiling, even when you don't feel like it.
"I think there is a right to be angry at injustice, I think you have a right, but I don't think you should live there," he said.
Osteen has his critics, his uplifting inspirational style has been called, by some, “Christian light.”
But Osteen sticks to the script, and his crowds keep coming.
