HOUSTON – A Houston police officer was taken to the hospital Thursday after a man, who told police he was under the influence, ran a red light and crashed into the officer near downtown.
Police said two men in a Chevy Malibu had just left a club and were running multiple red lights on Louisiana in downtown Houston around 2:30 a.m.
The driver T-boned an HPD patrol car when he ran a red light at the intersection of Gray and Louisiana, pinning the officer inside the vehicle.
The officer had to be cut out of the car and transported to the hospital for neck and back injuries. He was later released.
Police said the Malibu driver, 19-year-old Clayton Craig, admitted he had been drinking and failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody.
