SHERMAN, Texas — We now know the fate of a cat that was trapped in the rubble of a Sherman apartment fire for more than a week.
Workers went in Tuesday afternoon and found the body of 10-year-old Sassy. They do not believe she survived the initial fire.
Sassy's owner, 63-year-old Linda Monson, had stood vigil near the burned-out units at the Post Oak Crossing apartments over much of the past week. She told News 8 on Monday she had heard the sound of a cat's meow coming from the rubble; others claimed to have heard the sound, too.
Monson's family spent nearly $2,000 hiring pet detectives and search dogs to find Sassy.
