WEBSTER, Texas—Burglars busted in through a common apartment attic and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of electronics and jewelry from a family in Webster.
It happened last Friday evening in the 1100 block of El Camino Village Drive. Syed Yasir and his wife, Kiran Fatima, were out of the apartment when thieves ransacked every one of their rooms.
"I’m not feeling safe," said Yasir. "I’m like so scared."
KHOU 11 News took our camera up into the small space where the burglars got in and noticed a sheetrock wall was knocked down. The crooks had to weave through beams and insulation to find the small entrance.
"I was crying," said Fatima. "I was so scared that somebody gonna be still in the attic. I never even thought that that can be opened by any means—even management can’t have access."
Webster police believe the only likely way the burglars got into the attic was through another apartment. They stole a large TV, four smart phones, cameras and gold jewelry.
"They pretty much took everything," said Fatima.
Even police admit that there’s no real way to protect yourself against crooks crawling through the attic. You just need to be familiar with your surroundings.
"I never expected this ever," said Fatima. "I don’t really know what can make me have the peace of mind that I had before."
