HOUSTON—An Amber Alert for a 3-year-old boy was canceled Tuesday afternoon after the child was found unharmed in southeast Houston.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office issued the alert for Andrue Jankwitz Tuesday morning.

Investigators said Jankwitz was being watched by his next-door neighbor, Vanessa Soria, when Soria’s common-law husband, Ricardo Erasmo Hale, took the boy to a friend’s house around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Hale also took his 2-year-old son, Nathneal Hale, with him, investigators said.

They did not return.

After Soria and Jankwitz’s mother, Marlene DeLeon, appeared on the news Tuesday asking for the boys’ safe return, investigators said one of the women received a phone call from a friend of Ricardo Hale’s.

The caller said the boys were with Hale at a home on Scott Street in southeast Houston.

Investigators said Hale is a known drug user, and the home where he took the boys is a drug house.

The boys were located and taken to Memorial Hermann Southeast to be checked out. Investigators said they appeared to be OK.

Hale was being questioned by Harris County detectives Tuesday afternoon.
