GALVESTON — The University of Texas Medical Branch must turn over hundreds of pages of veterinary records to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has ruled.
The records Abbott ordered released were at the heart of the PETA’s inquiry into how such species as goats, guinea pigs, ferrets, cats, dogs, pigs, sheep and nonhuman primates were treated before, during and after being subjected to medical training procedures and during research, including burn treatment experiments.
The medical branch agreed to release about 1,800 pages of documents but sought permission from the attorney general to withhold most of the requested material, said Alka Chandna, laboratory oversight specialist for PETA.
