HOUSTON—A 9-year-old girl became the first cancer patient in Texas to benefit from a groundbreaking medical procedure Thursday.
Morgan LaRue lost part of her upper leg bone to cancer.
Doctors at Children’s Hospital installed a new device that will lengthen her existing leg bone using magnets.
They hope it will prevent her from having repeated surgeries.
Europe has approved the procedure, but it has not yet been approved in the U.S.
The FDA made an exception for Morgan.
