HOUSTON – A Houston chiropractor is giving back to the community by caring for the city’s homeless with food and care.

Every couple of weeks Neal Robinson loads up his SUV with healthy sack lunches paid for out of his own pocket and delivers them along the streets of Houston.

"We've got sandwiches, bottled water and nice sweet oranges," Robinson said.

Robinson said part of the reason he reaches out to the homeless is a bad divorce and sudden job loss that almost made him one of them.

"I was starting to think about which street corner, which bridge, what do you write on your sign," he said.

When he makes his rounds, he delivers a lot more than food.

"The biggest and best thing we bring out there is an eye-to-eye greeting, a handshake and a prayer," he said.  "Jesus told us, 'When you do it to the least of these, you've done it to Me.' "

He said his spirit is never broken by the occasional lies, scams or obscenities he hears out on the streets.

"I'm not out there to judge," Robinson said.

The chiropractor also routinely does back adjustments, right on the street. He said getting close to the smell some of the homeless people have doesn’t bother him after awhile.

"I guess I've done it enough times now.  I notice it.  I notice it.  But the first time or two," he said.

The next time you see a homeless person Robinson says you don't have to give him money or food just a bit of humanity.

"Roll your window down, smile and say, 'Hi,'" he said.

Robinson said that small gesture will do a lot of good.
