Body Conversations 101

By Michele Weston

Can you imagine loving your body right now? As it is? Curves and all? You know, those conversations – no matter what size – but always the loudest for us who wear a size 12 and up - that makes you think that embracing your shape, letting go of the number conversations is not in your reach.

I have to say, what I have learned has been mirrored in the ‘revolution’ that is happening against Hollywood leading ladies and the models that walk the runways around the world. We obsess. Whether we wear a size 2, 12 or 22. We could probably generate enough energy around this subject to power whole cities with that energy! Let’s see – Conversations about our butts in bathing suits, the size of our tummies when looking for the perfect jeans, or even the shape of our breasts. And even the classically loudest: food and exercise.

So, when you are ready, find ways to empower yourself. I’d like to suggest some ideas on how to start:

• Cut out the size tags in your clothing – YOU are not a number!

• Have a revelation - realize that curves are a girl’s best friend (especially as far as guys are concerned!)

• Find a better way to move your body – “Living in your skin” and expression is amazing when you try yoga, Pilates, dance.

• Treat yourself kindly – remember that the words you use to describe yourself are the beginning of great self-love!

• Nothing feels better than treating yourself and your body. Have a massage (too embarrassing? What about foot reflexology?!)

• Remembering to eat for fuel not emotions, and exercising for energy, not because you ‘have’ to.

If you want to change your body shape, do it for you – not for some “ideal” of you! You are the “right size” – right here – right now.

Each one of us makes a difference and has defining moments. What are yours? If you have daughters, sisters or nieces around you – set a positive example of living in your own skin.
