Tired of the empty bottles and litter on the beach?
Join Channel 11 and the Texas General Land Office for Adopt-a-Beach on Saturday to clean up Galveston Beach.
Volunteers should meet at Menard Park at 9 a.m., and we'll clean until noon.
Since 1986, the statewide effort has attracted more than 355,000 volunteers who come back every spring and fall to make a difference on the Texas coast.
Those volunteers have picked up more than 6,700 tons of trash -- just off of the beach.
The state said most of the trash collected is made up of cigarette butts, water bottles, soda cans and beach toys.
Some of the weird things they've found include a glass eye, a pair of falsies and a message in a bottle. (Not left by Sting and The Police, unfortunately.)
