Sweet kids use sweet treats to help fight cancer

Ice cream fundraiser for leukemia and lymphoma at Marble Slab Creamery.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Sherri and Cole, two 5th graders in Montgomery County who recently became media darlings, are using their new found celebrity status to help fight cancer.

Sherri tore her ACL playing soccer and the sweet note of encouragement and affection that Cole wrote to her was so outstanding that it went viral. It even received air time on the Today Show.

Sherri and Cole held a charity cookies and cream party at the Great American Cookie/Marble Slab Creamery on Lake Conroe this past weekend, with the shops giving a percentage of the profits to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

You can donate to the cause here.

In the last five years, Marble Slab and the Great American Cookie Company have donated almost $2 million to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

As for Cole and Sherri, both are running for student council and Sherri looks forward to returning to sports next Spring.

Cole's letter to Sherri:

Dear Sherri,

I’m so sorry that you broke your knee. I will miss watching you play soccer and I’m sorry that you won’t be able to play softball for a while. But I know you will heal quickly, and I will get to watch you play again soon. Although you can’t play sports, you still make my day when I get to see your beautiful smile.

God has a plan for all of us and sometimes it’s hard for us to understand why thing[s] happen to us. My dad tells me that God only allows things to happen that He knows we can handle. You are a pretty, nice, funny, and strong girl that is also a good friend. You will get through this quickly.

Please let me know how I can help during your recovery. I hope you recover fast and get well soon.

Your friend,
Cole
