HOLLYWOOD – The ‘Queen of Tejano’ is officially immortalized at Madame Tussauds Hollywood.
Fans gathered Tuesday in Hollywood to get the first look at the Selena wax figure that has been in the works since last October. This reveal falls in line with the 21st anniversary of her final studio album “Dreaming of You.”
In a Facebook Live video on Madame Tussauds Hollywood's page, Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla spoke to the crowd who lined the streets. A.B. thanked the fans saying that without them and the petition for the statue, this would have never happened.
In the same video Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, addressed the fans on why they decided to remember their sister in her purple and black outfit that celebrates her concert performance from her Grammy-winning album “Selena Live!”
“We tossed around the idea of a performance outfit versus the dress she wore to the Grammys,” said Suzette. “Clearly, this outfit represents an artist. Not only that, it represents her performance of Selena Live! in Corpus Christi, Texas.”
Some might not know that Selena’s favorite color purple which was another reason the outfit was chosen, but Suzette also added that the bra has a unique story.
A.B. explained that Selena would finish her outfits last minute, which he thought was crazy.
“She was in the back of the bus putting the stones on and then she let out a scream,” said A.B. “She said, ‘I don’t have enough stones to finish the bustier.’”
To make it work A.B. said she worked with what she had and created the unique design.
Fans can visit the museum in Hollywood and take photos with her wax figurine.
