Just like thousands of other moms, Lindsay Rhoades posted a first day of school photo on her Facebook.
But unlike other first day of school photos, her photo showed an empty front porch and an elementary school that her daughter will never attend.
Rhoades' daughter, Kate, died from acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Jan. 12, ABC reported.
She was 4-years-old.
“Kate should be starting kindergarten today,” Rhoades said in a Tuesday Facebook post. “She should have been dropped off this morning with a new backpack full of supplies a cute new outfit on...and a bow in her hair.”
Rhoades said there should be a photo of Kate standing on the family’s front porch in Herndon, Va., “proudly smiling."
But childhood cancer stole those should-be moments from Rhodes and her husband.
“Childhood cancer took that right away from my little girl,” Rhodes wrote. “It stole the opportunity of a lifetime of learning, starting right here, today. In a classroom at Dranseville Elementary School with new friends, new books, new people and new hope.”
Rhodes said instead of dropping off her daughter at the elementary school, she visited her grave.
