Art classes making a difference for memory care patients

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS - “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up,” Pablo Picasso once said.

Dementia patients at Silverado Cypresswood Memory Care are rediscovering their inner artists through weekly art classes.

The classes at the northwest Harris County facility are part of a program to maintain and build cognitive ability.

“The art workshop is a central part of  Silverado’s engagement programming, which helps people with dementia to enjoy meaningful lives,” said Georgina McCorkle, Senior Family Ambassador at Silverado Cypresswood.

The artists recently auctioned off their artwork and raised more than $2,000 for the Houston Alzheimer’s Association.

Expressions: Art from the Heart of Silverado featured paintings, ceramics, quilts and more.
