How would you react if you heard Willie Nelson singing a song that you wrote?
It happened to 92-year-old Lyndel Rhodes.
Rhodes’ son, Nashville record producer Buddy Cannon, took a video of Rhodes reacting to Willie Nelson singing her song “House on a Hill.” Cannon says Rhodes wrote the song about 10 years ago after she traveled with Cannon’s sister to visit him in Nashville. Rhodes’ arthritis flared up during the trip, and she was anxious to get home, which is what inspired her to write the song.
Cannon sent the song to Nelson who loved it and then recorded it. Cannon is now working with Nelson on his new album, which is due out sometime next year.
